What is a 'Skyline Traverse'?

"They are a unique bit of geography not found elsewhere in the Coast Mountains and seldom in other mountain ranges. Typically, mountain ridgetops are difficult to travel but these high coastal divides define routes that can be traveled with relative ease for two to three weeks or more." -John Baldwin

The Great Skyline Traverses of the Coast Mountains are unlike most backpacking trips. The main reason: they remain predominately on the ridgetops of the hundreds of sub-ranges that define the Coast Range.

Traverses range from 10-100+ kilometres. Elevation gains may exceed 8000 metres for a single trip. Route navigation becomes an art. Intuition & your bodies instincts perk up at this opportunity. You are on your way back in time. Such raw beauty finds its way into the soul.

Sharing these stories expose a sliver of the transformational experiences felt on the Skyline Traverses.  Conveying the power of Spirit that remains alive and healthy in the Coast Mountains can only be achieved by our Great Mother.

We hope the light of these photos inspire you to follow your dreams or help assist others on their quest.
